Blue RV Park is not a place I would recommend to anyone and still expect to be respected in any sort of fashion. Honestly, if we had felt like we had another option at the time we would have turned around immediately.
Let me set the stage for you. We are trying to make it to Dodge City to visit the Boot Hill Museum and historic downtown. We are driving Wanda (30 foot Class A motorhome with a tow) in 30-40 mph winds. White knuckle driving might be an understatement. With having several apps and memberships to find places to stay, this was the only one that showed up. The park showed up on Passport America and if it hadn’t been half off and beyond exhausted, we might have just kept going.
When we pulled up (at least, we were thinking we were in the right spot) it was unclear exactly as to what we were supposed to do. We parked on the side in the hopes that we would be able to turn around and leave if it didn’t work out. When you get to the place there is a building in the middle that you would assume is the campground host or have information or something regarding the campground, the price, how to get ahold of someone, etc. There was nothing of that sort and unclear as to where to go or what to do to find out. What you will see though is a sad dog chained up outside without any water. Yes, that made my blood boil. Did I mention it was flipping cold as hell too?
So, I call the number in the app that I had called earlier to find out if they had spaces and a pull through. The guy proceeds to text me back and let me know that I can just pull in to any spot I want. These are not pull through sites, but since they aren’t busy I could just pull up and take 2 spots so I could just pull out the next day. The few other people who were parked here looked like they had possibly been here for years. So, being exhausted, starving and freezing, we just pull in to a spot, level out and sit down for a second. Maybe 10 minutes later the guys is knocking on the door with the envelope for the payment of the spot. We write the check and part ways.
The next day Jason decides he’s going to go to the bathroom, shower up and do a quick load of laundry. I always shower in Wanda so that wasn’t even a thought for me. Not even 5 minutes later, Jason is back in Wanda stating that there is no way he is going to use the facilities. They were filthy, freezing and there were rodents and spiders all over. Also, the laundry was out of order.
Literally, the only thing this place had going for it was location. We quickly packed up and left. We have been to more parks than we can count, some good, some bad, but none compare to how bad this one was. Do yourself a favor and look for a different place to stay.
