Time with my grampa is always held very dear to me. Many of you may know that the main reason for me going to Minnesota first thing after leaving Arizona was to spend time with my grampa. He is my hero and we have been very close for as long as I can remember. Whatever this man did, I had to do to.
He was my hero so much that when my gramma passed I quit college and moved home to be with him and take care of him. He is a grown man and could have taken care of himself I’m sure but it was always something that gramma did and the thought of him on his own was more heart crushing than moving my gramma. Ok, truth be told, that might be a close second.
It wasn’t long after being back I remembered how set in his ways he was and how much adjustment needed to be done to adjust to the 2 hour time zone difference and keep up with this 82 year young grampa. I am not even exaggerating when I say this man can run circles around me and left me exhausted every night. The good news is I have many more great memories to share and I slept really good, I mean really good, every night.
My grampa and I picked up where we left off like there hadn’t been a 6 year distance between us and like we were best friends right away. Boat rides, fishing, trips to the city to pick stuff up, trips to Dairy Queen for his favorite (fish sandwiches) or just sitting outside, having a beer and remembering. Mostly things with gramma but never anything specific.
He worked me to my core and exhausted me but I wouldn’t have it any other way. More time and memories to cherish with my hero. Little does he know, I am his number one fan and I wouldn’t have him any other way.
